Spring Conference 2010

Network…Brainstorm…Inspire…Develop…Energize…
at the Spring ConferenceSaturday, April 10, 2010 noon to 3:00 – Garden Cafe

Democrats Working Together: Unstoppable! is the theme of the Club’s annual Spring Conference.  It comes from Howard Dean’s call to keep momentum building. The Spring Conference is a venue for Democratic candidates and politicians to address voters and constituents. There are several exciting county races that local Democrats are in on June 8th:

3rd and 5th District Supervisors

District Attorney

Superior Court Judge

County Education Superintendent

State Assembly (Wes Chesbro’s seat)

State Senate (Senator Wiggin’s seat)

US Congress (Mike Thompson’s seat)

Both Wesley Chesbro and Mike Thompson are running again, but Sen. Wiggins is stepping down after many years of dedicated public service; so that race should be lively. We should hear from all Democratic local candidates, so this is your chance to interface with our future leaders.

Momentum was on our side in the 2008 election. Democrats in Mendocino County are truly unstoppable as can be evidenced by (y)our hard work (and others) defeating Measure A last November by a 2/3rds majority.  We also turned our Board of Supervisors from a 3:2 (Rep. - 2, Ind. - 1 and Dems - 2) to a 4:1 (Dems - 4 and Ind. - 1) majority.

It is important that we elect Democratic candidates in Northern California. So save the date now.  This event will be popular, so tickets may sell out.  Remember, when we work together we're unstoppable.

Should you wish to sponsor the Spring Conference please send a check to the Ukiah Valley Democratic Club and mail to P.O. Box 294, Ukiah, CA 95482.

The conference will be a luncheon at the Garden Café in Ukiah, Saturday, April 10 from noon to 3:00.  Lunch will be $17.00 and the Club can subsidize members for which that amount would be a hardship. Get you tickets at the Mendocino Book Company, online by clicking on the Act Blue link or mail a check for $15 to PO Box 294, Ukiah, CA  95482.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Wendy Pollitz,

President, Ukiah Valley Democratic Club

Run-to-Win Campaign Training

Run-to-Win campaign training
by National Women's Political Caucus
Saturday, January 9, SEIU Hall, Ukiah

Run-to-Win campaign training is offered by Mendocino chapter of National Women's Political Caucus (NWPC) Saturday, January 9, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the SEIU Hall, 655 King Court, Ukiah.

"Women considering a first run for public office and political veterans should attend this valuable training to learn how to run to win without costly consultants and media budgets," said CTA Women's Leadership Trainer and NWPC-Mendocino President Val Muchowski of Philo.

Campaign skills training will be taught by NWPC certified trainers Ginger Pohlson of Willits, Estelle Clifton of Ukiah, and Susanne La Faver of Hidden Valley Lake, Lake County; and SEIU Labor Organizer Linda McClure of Ukiah.

Besides skills training, the day-long session includes campaign handbook, lunch with a panel of politically knowledgeable women, and a wine reception. Topics include why run, getting started, fund raising, campaign team, nuts and bolts, endorsements and online campaigning.

The luncheon panel of elected women, moderated by Estelle Clifton, includes Mendocino County Supervisor Carre Brown, Mendocino County District Attorney Meredith Lintott, and Ukiah City Councilmember Mari Rodin.

Training is geared for candidates with budgets of $25,000 or less and campaign teams of family, friends, community activists and political veterans.

Registration is $25. Cost for students, low-income women and SEIU members is $15.

For registration forms and more information, call Estelle Clifton at (707) 462-6620.

Make check payable to NWPC-PAC and mail with registration form to National Women's Political Caucus, PO Box 1140, Ukiah, CA., 95482.  Last day to register or cancel is January 5, 2010.

The National Women's Political Caucus is a nationwide multi-partisan organization working to build women's participation in the political process and increasing the number of women in elected and appointed positions, by recruiting, training, and supporting women who seek those elected and appointed offices.
